End: Wednesday 8th May 2024

Location: Hotel Palladium, Palma de Mallorca

About the Workshop:

The Fisheries Stock Assessment Workshop is set to take place from the 7th to the 9th of May 2024 at the Hotel Palladium in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. This workshop, supported by Iliad and conducted under the framework of the EcoScope Project, will delve into the various methods employed for assessing the status of fish stocks and their exploitation rates in data-poor areas. Topics to be covered include Catch and resilience (CMSY), Abundance and resilience (AMSY), and Length frequency distribution data (LBB).

The workshop is organised by MarinOmics Group, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Thessaloniki, Greece, and IEO-CSIC, Balearic Islands Oceanographic Centre, Palma de Mallorca. The event is supported by the European-funded Horizon 2020 Iliad and EcoScope projects.

Who Should Attend:

The workshop is designed for approximately 15 participants with a solid background in fisheries and fish biology concepts. Proficiency in R and R Studio is essential, and familiarity with recent methods for assessing fisheries in data-poor areas is advantageous.

Hardware and Software Requirements:

Participants are required to bring a portable computer with Windows 10 or MacOS, capable of connecting online. Installation and testing of the statistical environment R (v. 4.2 for Windows) and R Studio (v. 2022.02) are necessary. All software packages are open source and freely available for download. Participants are encouraged to download the recent versions of the scripts and data formats for all methods.

Datasets:

Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own data, including catch/landings time series, CPUE data time series, and length-frequency distributions.

Certificate of Attendance:

All participants will receive a certificate of completion upon the conclusion of the workshop.

How to Apply:

Interested participants can apply via the Application Form. The deadline for applications is March 20, 2024. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of March.
